What are Cydia repositories or sources ?

According to developer of Cydia, jay freeman(saurik) he said that "Cydia is bit like a web browser if so with use of Cydia you can browse and view software hosted by independent repositories, and the Cydia Store is a purchasing system that lets you buy software hosted by them."

In simply by adding relevant repository's web address (URL) on Cydia, you can easily search and find that repo and it's package of applications which run along with iOS.

Are they cost to add a repository?

No, you don't have to pay for adding a Repo, but after adding that repo it may contain apps that and you have to pay for use them, but you can easily find thousands of free applications by using Cydia.

For example there is a repository called "Bigboss" repo  (Newer versions of Cydia comes with some popular repositories along with it, Bigboss also a one of them if you are using Cydia now this repo already contain that package, We will give best Cydia repos on other blog post)

it's URL is - http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/

by using that URL you can easily add that repo and use it's own applications.It shows it's own application list and compatible iOS versions like this....
